although both are allotropes of carbon, diamond is the hardest known natural mineral; graphite, one of the softest. to go hard and shine, or to become defeat's medium in historical text? i don't really care. the lust for luster is elusive . . .

'be yourself' is... the worst advice you can give some people. --t. masson

we are genetics and environment, prone to an incalculable number of chaotic variables. what logic is there in 'being yourself' when you have no control over the extinct? senseless loyalty to the past? the grass is always greener on the other side, they say, and, sometimes, it actually is. can it be so bad to adopt mannerisms inconsistent with your circumstance? to be yourself is to idle, and to idle is to dismiss much of life.
